I'm Down with MEP

I may return to this later, but a brief question. With all of Bush's empty rhetoric about his support for small businesses, why has there been hardly any mention in the press of his repeated attempts to kill the Manufacturing Extension Partnership? It's a program for small manufacturers that only cost $106 million a year and showed impressive enough results that its currently a finalist for the Kennedy School of Government's Innovations in American Government Award. Bush succeeded in getting its funding cut by 63% for 2004 and requested the same for 2005. The program will not be able to function with that.

Kerry, on the other hand, supports raising the program's budget substantially over five years.

So why does Bush get away with claiming support for small businesses without someone bringing this up?
